Unhappy discovery re why the tea dress doesn't fit

I posted yesterday about my frustration with Felicity's tea dress not fitting Felicity, although it does fit my slightly slenderer Gotz Elizabeth. After reading posts here about tea dresses that do fit and hearing what Customer Service said about there possibly just being a "bad batch", I decided on a little experiment. I tried the tea dress on my only Mattel-era historical doll, Nellie. It fits her perfectly, no problem at all getting the sleeves up her arms.

This is just what I was afraid of. The Mattel-era dolls are a little smaller than those from the Pleasant Company era. Clothes cut with a tiny bit of extra allowance would fit all the dolls just fine but Mattel isn't doing that. They seem to be making outfits that only fit their own, much newer dolls.

Which leaves those of us who have been collecting for years where---?

I think they just didn't think about it. Thier test model was probably a brand new doll and they didn't even think about the other ones being a differant size.

They may not have even had a older one availible to try it on so they made a best guess that it would fit them as well. They probably tested it on one doll and when it fit that doll okay, they called it a day.

I'm sure you're right, but this still doesn't explain why the dresses aren't fitting even the new Elizabeth dolls, whom they were supposedly made for!

Just my humble opinion, but I think Mattel tried to be just a little too "skimpy" on the material for the new dresses. [img]graemlins/wonder.gif[/img]

I got mattel dolls and the outfit did not fit them!!! I think they made a mistake with the size of the pattern in the sleeves.

Felicitys' tea dress doesnt fit my elizabeth at all.. it takes lots of pushing and shoving to get the sleeves up her arms, they are just too small.

I think it was a mis-calculation on their part too. I have said it before, but I wonder if the GT stuff is made in a different factory than the historial stuff....it's only the historical stuff that is having a problem. They are sure going to have a mass of seconds on this one...I wouldn't want to be the person who set the measurments...what is it, measure twice cut once...well said!

Maybe there's more than one problem. The Customer Service supervisor said production was spread out over different factories so maybe there is a "bad batch" that doesn't fit anyone and I actually have a "good" tea dress from a different batch, the problem with it being that it doesn't fit an older doll.

I'm not so sure about that. I have the Tropical Breezes outfit and the top is tight on all my dolls. In the picture on the website and in the catalog it doesn't look nearly as tight.
